2003 Mailbox Migrations – Process and FAQ’s

Do you have any information about the Exchange 2003 mailbox migrations?

Microsoft will stop supporting Exchange 2003 mailboxes in 2014 as it comes to the end of it’s life. To maintain our levels of  support and performance of all our customers, we will start migrating Exchange 2003 mailboxes onto our new Exchange 2013 platform in December 2013.

Migrated Mailboxes will automatically receive all the additional features available to Exchange 2013 mailboxes.

We will be proactively notifying all Exchange 2003 users of the migration process in advance of this work. This article is split into 2 sections:

Frequently asked Questions

Will email be lost or unavailable when mailboxes are migrated?

All your email will be backed up by us before we migrate your mailbox, so there will be no loss of data. To minimise interruption, we will be migrating mailboxes in overnight maintenance windows. Any emails sent to you during this window will be stored and then delivered after your migration is complete.

What do you need to do after your mailbox has been migrated?

  • If you use Outlook Web Access (OWA), you will need to immediately start using the following link to log in to your email, and update any bookmarks in your web browser: https://www.fasthosts.co.uk/login/webmail
  • Your mobile email settings may need to be reset on your device(s) once your mailbox has been migrated. Select the device that you use from this page, and then follow the step by step guide to configure mobile email.

I am using Public folders (an optional feature), will I be able to keep my data?

Yes, your Public Folder will be migrated when your mailbox is migrated and you will have a new capacity of 10GB per domain.

Will all my Exchange 2003 mailboxes be migrated at once?

Yes, we aim to migrate your organisation within one maintenance window.

Will I be notified nearer the time?

Yes, We will send you further notifications before the migration begins.

What do I need to do?

This will be communicated to all Exchange 2013 customers, however the process is described below:

Before Migration

We have worked hard to make the migration as easy as possible and in many cases, you don’t need to do anything.

If you are using Outlook 2003 or 2007
Earlier versions of Outlook will not connect to the new powerful Exchange 2013 mailboxes. In light of this, you can now download Outlook 2010 free of charge from your control panel. Changing to Outlook 2010 is simple if you follow the steps below:

  1. Before making any changes to your Outlook installation; we strongly recommend taking a backup. This should not be needed but is best practice. Back up your emails and contacts.
  2. Download Outlook 2010
  3. Set up Outlook 2010

We will keep you informed of our progress and provide you with a date when the migration will take place closer to the date.
